Our wines, our olive oil, our history

Winery

During your stay on the estate, you can visit the cellar next to the swimming pool and taste some of our wines, including Castello del Tegolato, a high-quality Chianti DOCG, the IGT Levriero, and the Riserva (Mario Cobuccio).

You will also have the opportunity to learn about the history of the renowned "Tegolato", from which our accommodation complex takes its name, a unique wine due to the way it was aged under the tiles of the castle after bottling.

The winery has in recent years been employing the most modern winemaking techniques that have allowed the production of these remarkable wines. As tradition dictates, all the grapes are harvested strictly by hand.
Our wines are a perfect accompaniment to all typical Tuscan dishes.

Levriero

Tegolato

Tegolato

Tegolato wine is prepared in years in which favourable seasonal conditions give the grapes all the characteristics required to obtain a wine with a high alcohol content that is robust and durable. This wine is made from quality grapes selected through years of experience and is prepared and bottled at the Fattoria Antico Castello di Poppiano winery.

This wine takes its name from the long exposure on the roof tiles of the castle where the natural elements give it that particular bouquet and taste that distinguishes it.

Tegolato should be served at a temperature of 20°-24° C after it has been uncorked a few hours in advance (one hour for each year of ageing) and is ideal with typical Italian dishes.
The Kunz princes of Habsburg Lorraine, owners of the ancient Castle of Poppiano, experts in the "tegolatura" method handed down from generation to generation, personally oversaw the production of this wine. Tegolato wine may have some deposits so it is advisable to mix it gently after having kept the bottle in a vertical position for a few days.
